Our story
Two homes, one table
Why a Burmese food store in Barcelona, the family behind it, and how we choose what we sell.
Who we are
The family behind the store
We are a Burmese family who settled in Barcelona and missed the food. The store started as a list of things friends kept asking us to bring back from Yangon.
Today it is the whole family: one of us answering your messages, one in the kitchen frying onion oil, one packing your orders.
Barcelona Burmese Food Store started with a suitcase. Every trip home to Yangon came back with laphet wrapped in three plastic bags, jars of balachaung in our socks, and a list of requests from friends.
In the end it was easier to start a store. Today we import directly from producers in Yangon, Mandalay and the Shan hills, and cook a few things — onion oil, samosas, Shan tofu — in our own kitchen.
We are a family business, online only. If you are not sure what to do with something, ask us. We have almost certainly cooked it for dinner this week.
How we source
Chosen by people who cook it
We buy from producers we know — laphet from the Shan hills, ngapi from the Rakhine coast, rice from the Ayeyarwady delta — and taste every new batch before we sell it.
If we would not cook with it at home, we do not sell it.
